Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I store my beans or ground coffee in the fridge or freezer?

A: No, store coffee in an air tight container whilst maintaining room temperature in the cupboard out of direct sunlight. In high humidity store your coffee in an airtight container in the bottom of your fridge where you keep your veggies, where it’s not so cold.

Q: Does boiling water burn my coffee?

A: Yes, when making coffee in a plunger, allow your boiled water to sit for 30 seconds before pouring over the grinds. If using a stovetop use your smallest gas ring at the lowest setting and allow 6-12 minutes brewing depending on the size of the stovetop.

Q: How long do coffee beans and pre-ground coffee last?

A: Freshly roasted coffee provides the best flavour. In beans we believe it is at its best for 6 weeks after roasting and about third of that time for ground coffee if stored as directed.

Q: Is it better to buy my coffee pre – ground or in whole beans?

A: Coffee is far better stored as beans and ground as needed. This will help your coffee retain it’s flavour. Remember to use one- and half dessert spoons of beans to get one heaped dessert spoon of ground coffee, required to make one cup of coffee.(250ml)

Q: How long will it take for me to receive my coffee order?

A: If you order your coffee prior to 2pm during weekdays, and you live in the Perth metropolitan area or the southwest, you generally receive your parcel within 2 working days.
If you live in the far north/south of WA, please allow for 3 working days. For coffee lovers in any of the other states, you will have to allow for a minimum of 5-8 working days depending if you live in/near or away from your metropolitan area.

Q: Are all coffees in the supermarkets and shops 100% arabicas?

A: NO! Especially the cheaper varieties will have some of the cheaper robusta coffee blended into a higher percentage of arabica. This makes the coffee generally more bitter and ‘earthier’ in taste. The caffeine level will increase as well in relation to the percentage of robusta used in the blend as robusta generally has twice the caffeine level in the coffee in comparison to the arabica style coffees Everybody agrees asrabica coffees are much more flavoursome than robusta

Q: Where do the best coffees come from?

A: Arguably from the Latin America countries. Remember there is no ‘best coffee’. The best coffee is the one that YOU enjoy most!
But generally, the better Arabica coffees come from micro climates found north and south of the Equator between 2000 and 7000 feet above sealevel where its not so hot (24-26 degrees during the day and 12-16 degrees at night with plenty rainfall). The higher the elevation, generally the lower the acidity in the coffee.
Coffee that is also shade grown (under the tree canopy of the forest) are recognized to have better characteristics than those that are grown in direct sunlight.

Q: How is instant coffee made?

A: You don’t wanna know!

Q: What is the Swiss Water Process?

A: It’s a chemical free decaffeination process that uses flavor-charged water by immersing the green coffee in water and extract the flavor solids and caffeine from the green coffee beans. These beans are then discarded and the caffeine removed using a carbon filter leaving just the water, super-saturated with coffee solids.
After the 8 hours process, the beans are removed from the water, then dried, cleaned, polished and re-bagged and shipped to the coffee roaster. The coffee is 99.9% free of caffeine.

Q: How much coffee do I use to make a cup of coffee?

A: If you grind your coffee beans yourself, place one and half dessert spoons of beans in your grinder to produce one heaped dessert spoon of ground coffee.(9-10g ground coffee for every 250ml cup)
