Alphonso Bialtetti is a famed engineer for acquiring Luigi De Ponti’s invention of the beautiful + simple Moka Pot. A style icon of the 1950s, the nostalgic brewer harkens back to a simpler time of function-driven manufacturing and delicious italian style coffee.
The Bialetti Stovetop has become a time-honoured and classic coffee maker – thus we had to make it a part of our core-range of brew-gear. So revered in fact that the blueprints of the original Bialetti Moka Express, made by Alphonso Bialetti, are on display in the London Design Museum.
Potentially more importantly, Alphonso Bialetti’s invention had managed to bring espresso based coffee to the home for the very first time. Prior to this, good home made coffee was restricted to upper-middle class citizens only.
So the release of the Bialetti Stovetop essentially paved the way for commoditisation of coffee as we know it today.
