Description
Peppermint Tea
Botanical: Mentha piperita
Origin: Sri Lanka
Health Benifits: Caffeine free and rich in menthol oils, peppermint sooths the stomach. It is a natural sedative, relieving stress and may reduce blood pressure.
Peppermint is a native to the Mediterranean but now grows extensively around the world including Sri Lanka. Peppermint loves water and can be found growing wild close to streams, rivers and wet areas. The herb has high levels of menthol oil and is the reason for its popularity. Menthol oils trick receptors in our mouths into believing the tea is cold even if it is hot in exactly the same way chilies make us think they are hot. The cooling nature of Peppermint tea is invigorating and refreshing, it clears sinuses, aids digestion and leaves your breath clean and fresh.
Brewing Peppermint Tea
To release the aroma and get the cool and refreshing feeling of this tea, we suggest using 1 teaspoon of peppermint tea steeped for 3 mins at 80°c in a 220ml cup.
The Common Banded Peacock Butterfly
Papilio Crino
Also called the Emerald Swallowtail
this metallic green butterfly is a beauty. Swallowtails like ‘puddling’ and can be seen in forest clearings drinking from pools of water but they spend much of their time high in the canopy. They are a common sight in Sri Lanka where our Peppermint tea is grown, that’s why we’ve chosen this beautiful butterfly as Yahava’s Peppermint Tea ambassador.
