From Fujian Province in China, this delightfully delicate white tea is known locally as Pai Mu Tan. For the connoisseur, early spring buds of peonies are collected and withered before they open, keeping the flavours delicate and subtle.

Derived from the Camellia Sinensis plant, Peony White Tea is a smooth, clean and bold brew with notes of nuts and citrus. Just like its name, this clean drink can help to detoxify the body and boost the immune system, especially when steeped in mineral water. This elegant tea can be taken hot or iced.

Peony Tea

Botanical: Camellia sinensis

Origin: China

Health Benefits: This tea has undergone very little processing so it is packed with antioxidants, polyphenols (catechins) and amino acids, known to help with circulation and hypertension. These catechins are thought to lower cholesterol and contain cancer inhibiting antioxidants. It has the least amount of caffeine of all the white teas.

Fujian Province is considered the origin of white tea. White Peony tea plants have large and beautiful tea buds and it is these buds with barely unfurled leaves that have made the White Peony famous. The buds are covered in fine white hair and are the reason they are called, ‘white teas’. Processing always reduces the number of antioxidants in the leaf and this is the least processed of all of the teas meaning it is packed with antioxidants. White teas are some of the most revered of Chinese teas, famous for their delicate, sweet, herbal and floral flavours. For the connoisseur of teas, White Peony is so subtle that it should never be mixed with milk or other additives.

Brewing Peony White Tea

To get the clean and robust taste of Peony Tea, take 1 teaspoon of our Yahava Peony White Tea and steep it in a 220 ml cup at 80°c for about 2 minutes. You can also try this over ice to make it extra refreshing!

The Black Veined White Butterfly

Aporia crataegi

This pure white butterfly is common throughout many temperate regions of the world including China. Not to be mistaken for the cabbage butterfly, the crataegi is larger and with distinctive black lace-like veins. Highly social they can be seen in large gatherings called kaleidoscopes.
